This poem, Moments, is about what happens when I meditate. It explains how I control my mind, emotions, senses and visualization. After a busy day, my mind can be full of the day’s events, all that clutter lying dormant in my mind waiting for me to reuse it again and again, thinking have I forgotten to do this, should I have done that when I should be relaxing, not realizing that all these happenings increase tension instead of peace. Meditating can release these unwanted events, soothing away those thoughts that fill the mind. So it is important that I calm my mind, allowing at first a perfect stillness with no thoughts, leaving my mind in a total shut down of emptiness, while concentrating on a rhythmic pattern of breathing. After a while I can begin to visualise, refilling my mind with the things I enjoy and love. As a child I had a very strong imagination, I could occasionally visualize things as if they were real, unfortunately as I grew out of my childhood my life became more serious and responsible, leaving behind my sensitivities and imagination. Some of you may be able to relate to this. Since I have been meditating I have gradually been developing my visualisation, enabling me to rekindle that imagination that I once had. This is achieved by visualizing happy moments that trigger my emotions and senses. One of my favourite moments can be when I visualize a beach with the waves crashing, using my senses to hear the sound of the crashing waves, feel the water flowing around my feet, smell the sea air and sense the warmth of the sun on my face. After meditating I feel rejuvenated, it is just like being there. These moments are the thoughts of my mind, my imagination, you may be able to visualize your own moments, perhaps some happy events that you can remember.
Moments
Here are some moments that help me unwind, they make me relax and open my mind. Just at that moment my mind becomes free, there’s a wonderful feeling that comes over me.
To feel the warmth of the sun on my face, on a summer’s day at a nice quiet place. Crashing of waves as they land on the shore, the sound of the pebbles that are washed up once more.
Singing of birds as they fly through the trees, or the smell of the flowers being groomed by the bees.
Stars in the sky as they sparkle at night, a shooting star is a wonderful sight.
The beauty of nature is working for me, taking time to relax has helped me to see. There maybe moments that you now can find, to help you relax and to open your mind.
The wonder of life has always been there, we need to find time to stop, look and care.
